Pointillé by Wassily Kandinsky, 1935

Pointillé (1935) by Wassily Kandinsky announces the lyrical, visionary maturity of one of modern art’s great pioneers. Born in 1866, the Russian-born painter helped define abstraction through color, rhythm, and nonrepresentational form. By the mid-1930s, Kandinsky’s canvases often read like musical scores—composed yet improvisational—balancing geometric scaffolds with playful, biomorphic shapes. Painted during his later period, Pointillé distills that balance into a refined language of dots, curves, and floating forms that seem to hum with inner harmony.

This listing offers a museum-quality fine art print of Kandinsky’s painting, produced with archival pigment inks on your choice of acid-free, heavyweight paper or artist’s cotton canvas. The Unique Maps Co. can craft your print in a range of sizes, with optional framing in gallery-ready profiles. Personalization options include added borders, title captions, and custom sizing, so you can tailor the presentation to your space and style.

Kandinsky is celebrated as a founding figure of abstraction—an artist who translated music, emotion, and spiritual inquiry into pure visual form. Trained outside of art before committing fully to painting, he absorbed and reshaped early 20th-century ideas from across Europe, teaching at the Bauhaus and later working in Paris. His exploration of color’s psychological resonance and form’s expressive potential made him a touchstone for generations of artists.

Pointillé belongs to the phase when Kandinsky’s art grew increasingly refined and lyrical. Its title—French for “dotted” or “stippled”—signals the work’s fascination with particulate texture and constellations of marks. A predominantly dark ground sets the stage for floating, organic forms that hint at microscopic life and distant galaxies at once. This is abstraction in conversation with modernity’s great questions, from the unseen worlds of science to the inner landscapes of the mind.

Color is the engine of the composition. Deep black recedes like night sky or ink-dark water, against which saturated blues pool and drift. Sparks of yellow flicker across the surface, with measured touches of red, green, and cool silvery tones adding contrast and lift. Stippled textures give the larger forms a tactile presence, while fine, curving lines animate the field, suggesting currents, orbits, and melodic arcs. The brushwork feels spontaneous yet precise, the kind of control that invites careful looking and rewards it.

Own this print for the way it transforms a room: as a focal point above a sofa, anchoring a study, or energizing a hallway with a quiet sense of motion. Its biomorphic geometry plays beautifully with mid-century furniture, minimalist spaces, and contemporary interiors alike, offering a conversation piece that remains meditative rather than loud. Pointillé bridges science and poetry—perfect for a collector who appreciates both.

A thoughtful gift for birthdays, housewarmings, graduations, or holidays such as Christmas, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day, it’s ideal for lovers of modern art, design devotees, and anyone drawn to music, cosmology, or the beauty of the unseen.
